Contractor needed for new £960,000 village hall near Yeovil
Submissions open for community facility in Barwick and Stoford
A search is underway for a contractor to construct a new village hall valued at £960,000 near Yeovil.
Barwick and Stoford Parish Council is looking for bids to execute the project which will feature a village hall and football changing facility at the Recreation Ground on Whitcross.
The plan has been approved by the council since February 2023, and the tender process is active, targeting completion by late 2028.
Situated south of Yeovil, the hall is aimed at serving the communities of Barwick and Stoford, with its successful applicant being appointed by late autumn this year.
With construction slated to commence by spring 2027, the location is optimally placed close to Yeovil Junction railway station and the Yeovil Showground. This development will also introduce parking for 32 vehicles, including facilities for disabled access.
Proctor Watts Cole Rutter, representing the parish council, expressed satisfaction with the site being approved for the new hall, noting the community's eager anticipation for a central activity hub, particularly after being without one since 2017.
In parallel with a 800-home development on the Keyford site, the pledge for a contractor prioritises companies within a 50-mile radius.
Tender submissions close on 9th October, with the aim of awarding the contract before Christmas 2026.
