Works will begin next month on Clevedon seafront to implement a number of updates agreed last year following feedback from local businesses, councillors and members of the public.

These changes include the removal of wiggly lines which were painted on The Beach in Clevedon.

The road marking were so unusual they drew national attention and saw the street labelled a "yellow brick road".

As well as the strange lines being added, parking spaces were also removed and a cycle lane created, all of which many residents complained wasn't necessary.

New updates will begin in mid-February and are expected to be complete within 12 weeks, before the start of May half-term.

The updates include re-introduction of the sea-facing parking; retention of the one-way system with a counter flow cycle lane; improved pedestrian crossing and the removal of the fiercely debated wiggly lines.

Councillor Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways and local ward member, said: "The updates taking place are in line with public feedback gathered over the last two years."

As the works get underway, sections of the road will be closed on a temporary basis. However, access will be maintained at all times for businesses and residents.

The cost of the changes is being met from a variety of funding streams including council reserves, Section 106 money from developers, Local Transport Plan funding and residual funding from the allocation towards the Great Lakes project in Clevedon.
