Fire crews from Axminster, Chard, and Ilminster managed to contain a significant fire that destroyed vehicles and part of a garage near Ilminster in the early hours of the morning.

The fire initially involved some cars and a trailer at a property in Peasmarsh, near Ilminster, before spreading to a large garage.

Initially, two fire appliances from Ilminster and Chard responded to the blaze; however, the scale of the fire led to the arrival of additional units from Chard and Axminster, along with a water carrier from Yeovil.

By the time the crews arrived on scene, the fire had spread to the garage, which posed a threat to the nearby farmhouse.

Using six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, an attack jet, and ceiling hooks, firefighters worked swiftly and effectively to control and extinguish the fire.

Thermal imaging cameras assisted in identifying hotspots, as the crew dampened down the vehicles and garage.

Despite three vehicles, one trailer, and the three-bay garage being completely destroyed, and another vehicle sustaining partial heat damage, crews successfully prevented the fire from reaching the farmhouse.

No casualties were reported, and the fire was confirmed to have started accidentally.

These are the final details of the incident, which is now resolved.
