Bridgwater is set to gain new employment opportunities following the approval of plans for additional commercial units near the M5 motorway.

The Bridgwater Gateway site, located north of the A38 Taunton Road near junction 24 of the M5, already hosts ten business units, a Premier Inn hotel, and several retail outlets including Lidl, Costa Coffee, Domino’s Pizza, and Greggs.

Somerset Council has given the green light to Bridgwater Gateway Industrial Ltd for the establishment of four new commercial units on Compass Avenue.

These units, ranging in size from 11,000 to 20,000 square metres, will feature 102 parking spaces, including electric vehicle charging and motorcycle spaces.

Expected to enhance Bridgwater’s economic growth by offering diverse commercial space, the new units are projected to commence construction before the end of summer.

According to Angus Meek Architects, the design considers accessibility via walking, cycling, and public transport, utilising the strategic corridor along the A38.

While the exact number of jobs to be created is pending the final tenants' selection, the development is anticipated to bolster Bridgwater's employment sector.

The plans were approved through Somerset Council's delegated powers, bypassing a public decision by the planning committee north.
