An ancient box tomb, thought to be more than 300 years old, has collapsed in a church cemetery in Somerset.

Martock Parish Council say safety barriers are in place at All Saints Churchyard after the incident exposed the underground crypt.

They shared an update over the weekend - issuing a warning to anybody entering the churchyard.

In a statement, Martock Parish Council said: "Please be aware there is a collapsed grave at the entrance to the churchyard.

"Safety barriers are in place, please take extreme care when walking to the fireworks this evening."

It's reported the hole spans around 12 feet - with survey work now due to take place into exactly how it happened.

There are now safety barriers in place around the chasm.
