A brand-new entertainment space has opened in Yeovil in the eastern end of the town centre.

The amphitheatre-style entertainment space has been in the works for over a year, following months of delays and disruption.

Local MP Adam Dance attended the ceremony, alongside members of Somerset Council.

"I think its absolutely brilliant to open the Yeovil Refresh and Triangle area," he said.

"This area has been very tired for a while and we've seen lots of anti-social behaviour so bringing this area forward as part of the refresh is needed

"Because it's an open area it'll be good for people to access theatre and the arts who otherwise couldn't afford it.

"It's such an open, nice area."

The space sits around one hundred people and features a big screen and water fountain in the middle, which will be up and running in the spring.

It's hoped the space will boost the local economy and provide an exciting venue for local musicians and theatre groups.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Lead Member for Economic Development, Planning and Assets, said: "We are incredibly excited to be opening the Triangle in the new year – a completely different space from the former Bandstand area. Locals will see elements of the new space already open and dressed for the festive period.

"We will be working with partners to deliver a diverse programme of events and activities, maximising the potential the new space will offer in bringing people together and creating a focal point for the town."
