A303 closed as lorry carrying hay bales bursts into flames overnight

The A303 between the A358 at Horton Cross and the A30 at Upottery is currently closed in both directions following a lorry fire.
The incident involved a heavy goods vehicle transporting hay, which caught fire and spread to the adjacent grass verge.
Firefighters, alongside local farmers, are actively involved in containing the blaze.
The fire broke out shortly before 9pm yesterday evening.
The road is expected to remain closed for some time, with an inspection to take place once fire crews confirm the area is safe.

Travellers using this route are advised to follow diversion routes marked with symbols on road signs.
Westbound Diversions
At Southfields Roundabout, take the third exit for the A358 (signposted Donyatt/Broadway/Horton and Chard)
Travel on the A358 towards Chard
At the signalised junction with Fore Street and East Street, turn right onto the A30
Continue on the A30 westbound until re-joining the A303 near Upottery
Eastbound Diversions
Exit the A303 onto the A30 (signposted Crewkerne/Chard and Yarcombe)
Travel on the A30 towards Chard
At the junction with the A358 and East Street, turn left onto the A358 (signposted Taunton/Ilminster)
Follow the A358 to rejoin the A303 eastbound at Southfields Roundabout
