11-year-old dog rescued after falling 18ft down Somerset well

Firefighters say an 11-year-old dog is unharmed after falling around eighteen feet down a well, which was partly full with water.

Crews were called near Bridgwater yesterday morning (20/7) - and brought Jackson the black Labrador back to safety.

On their incidents page, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "One Fire engine was initially sent to a report of dog down a well in a domestic property.

"On arrival crews confirmed this dog was approximately 18 feet in this well, which had water inside.

"Crews got to immediately pumping out the water, whilst another 2 crews were sent to assist with rope rescue. The dog was rescued using:

  • A water ejector pump
  • Gas monitors
  • A battery operated fan
  • Rope rescue equipment

"Jackson the black Labrador was unharmed and reunited with his owners."
