WWI shell uncovered in Hungerford

A suspected bomb uncovered on a building site in Hungerford has been confirmed as a WWI shell.

Police and bomb disposal experts attended the site in Charnham Street and carried out a controlled explosion.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "We have been called to a suspected piece of possible WW1/WW2 ordnance at a building site in Charnham Street, Hungerford.

"There has been a small cordon put in place at the site, and one office has been evacuated as a precaution while we await an EOD review of the item."

A cordon was put in place around the site in Charnham Street this morning (26 February), with a closure on the A4.

Police have confirmed they have now left the scene.
