Wiltshire Trading Standards hail single-use vape ban as 'positive' step
Selling disposable vapes is banned in the UK from 1st June 2025
As businesses across Wiltshire prepare for the ban on selling disposable vapes, Wiltshire Trading Standards has told us it believes the step is positive.
Selling single use vapes will be prohibited from Sunday 1st June, following a legislation passed in October 2024.
It's in a bid to clean up the UK's streets, with the devices commonly discarded in general waste bins, or as litter.
And even when sent to recycling sites, the process, which is done by hand, is slow and unable to keep up with the volume of device production.
Senior Trading Standards Investigating Officer, Rob Green, told us: "It's clearly an issue that needs to be resolved, and I think this is a step in the right direction, for sure.
"From a trading standards perspective as well, the easy nature of purchasing such products does make them very attractive to young children, which hopefully it will go some way to deter that in the future."
Rob said it's not going to change much about how they work with retailers, insisting they'll still give businesses selling illegal products a warning to remove them from sale.
He said: "If businesses ignore the advice, then we would have to take more robust steps and that can range from seizures to fines to ultimate prosecution.
"But initially we will be trying to work with the businesses so that everyone is on board."
