Wiltshire Police has relaunched its Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for the years 2025 to 2030, with the goal of creating a fairer and more representative service for the communities of Wiltshire and Swindon.

The strategy outlines four main areas of focus: communities, workforce, partners, and the improvement of policies and processes. These areas have been transformed into annual commitments to enhance community engagement, ensure fair decision-making, and improve workforce wellbeing.

Initially launched earlier this year, the strategy has been revised based on feedback from communities and stakeholders. Chief Constable Catherine Roper emphasised the importance of fairness, dignity, and respect within the police service, aiming for an inclusive environment that supports both communities and the workforce.

By 2030, Wiltshire Police aims to offer more accessible services and build stronger relationships with neighbourhood teams, while improving the experience for victims and maintaining public confidence.

Chief Constable Roper stated, "This matters because policing by consent depends on public confidence that we use our powers fairly, listen to different experiences and act where outcomes are unequal. Our colleagues must also know that they are valued, supported and able to challenge behaviour that falls short of our standards."

Year 1 commitments, from October 2026 to October 2027, include introducing new third-party reporting sites, establishing Enhanced Video Response (EVR), strengthening support for employees and their families, publishing professional standards trends and outcomes, engaging in more than 100 community outreach events, delivering workforce equality, diversity and cultural competency training, and expanding responsibilities under the Police Covenant.

Progress will be measured through various boards, advisory groups, and inspection processes, ensuring transparency and community engagement.

Community members are invited to participate in shaping these efforts through Independent Advisory Groups or by connecting with their local Neighbourhood Policing Team for feedback.
