Wiltshire Police ask dog owners to be wary of livestock
We're asked to keep pets on leads near other animals
Dog walkers in Wiltshire are being urged to keep their pets on leads around livestock, after several attacks on sheep.
Ewes have been bitten, lost lambs and in one case a flock had to be rescued from a stream.
Wiltshire Police say offences will be taken seriously, with livestock worrying becoming an increasing problem for the force.
Inspector Andy Lemon, from the Rural Crime Team said:
"Dog owners are reminded that they are responsible for their dogs at all times and allowing them out of sight to roam does not negate your responsibility for your pets.
“Offences are being committed under the Dangerous Dogs Act and the Protection of Livestock Act and incidents of this nature are taken seriously, particularly at this time of year when many sheep are in lamb and due to give birth to young at any moment.
“Please be mindful of your dog escaping or being out of sight around livestock.”
If you see a dog worrying or attacking livestock, you're asked to call 999 while the incident's ongoing, or call 101 if it's already ended.
