£2.65 million for supporting Wiltshire crime victims
The Police and Crime Commissioner's investing in services
£2.65 million is to be spent on improving services for victims of crime in Wiltshire.
The Police and Crime Commissioner's secured £1.45 million from the Ministry of Justice, and allocated £1.2 million from his office's budget towards frontline and community services.
That money from the MoJ is a 4.2% reduction compared to the previous year, although PCC Philip Wilkinson has pledged to maintain the facilities currently available.
There'll also be works to improve the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Swindon starting this financial year to improve the quality of the service for victims.
New equipment will be installed there, along with enhancements for the environment there, while processes and procedures will be streamlined to enable a smoother process for victims.
Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson said: “Supporting victims in the time when they are most vulnerable and need help is a core priority for my office and is contained within my new police and crime plan.
“We know we cannot eradicate crime completely so we must ensure the services we are funding are delivering for victims when they need it most, regardless of whether they’ve chosen to report a crime to the police. We will continue to drive delivery of the identified improvements to services to the required timescales to ensure victims are still able to be supported effectively.”
