Two of Wiltshire's MP's are giving us their reaction to the Liberal Democrats taking charge at Wiltshire Council.

The party became the county's largest following May's local elections, as the Conservative Party suffered loses.

It was part a chastening set of results across the country for the Tories, with Salisbury MP John Glen saying he feels the results were reflective of the national feeling towards his party, rather than the local feeling.

Chippenham's Lib Dem MP, Sarah Gibson, told Greatest Hits Radio she's delighted to see Ian Thorn, of Calne Central, become the new leader.

She insists the new administration will make a difference in Wiltshire: "Ian Thorn and his new cabinet team are supported by an excellent group of councillors who are dedicated to reaching out to communities, businesses and organisations across the county, listening to residents and their concerns and rolling up their sleeves to fix the issues that matter."

She said this Council will seek to bring decisions closer to towns and villages across the county, meaning we have our say closer to home and that local communities, people and businesses will be put first.

John Glen told us he wasn't surprised to see Cllr Thorn become leader, saying "Usually in an election, if you win more seats, you take power."

He said he hopes the Calne representative 'doesn't forget' Salisbury and the surrounding South Wiltshire towns.

Mr Glen said: "I wish the new leader well. I hope he can build on the successes and the financial stability that he's inherited.

"What people want is they want good local services delivered efficiently."
