Wiltshire man fined for fly-tipping after CCTV capture
Swift action taken against waste dumping incident in Stonehenge area
An Amesbury man has been fined £1,000 and had his vehicle seized after being caught on CCTV fly-tipping waste in the Stonehenge area.
Wiltshire Council Environmental Enforcement officers commenced an investigation after discovering dumped waste consisting of approximately eight builders’ buckets of soil and garden refuse on 7th May.
Reviewing CCTV footage from 3rd May, officers observed a man unloading several buckets of waste from a van onto the public highway.
Wiltshire Police, acting on behalf of the council, seized the van on 9th May.
The council returned the vehicle once no longer needed for investigation, after the owner provided the required documentation.
The offender was interviewed under caution, admitted the offence, and apologised.
A £1,000 fixed penalty notice was issued and paid in full.
Wiltshire Council has expanded its CCTV capabilities across the county to address fly-tipping and other environmental offences.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, stated: “Fly-tipping is completely unacceptable, and this case shows just how quickly we can act when we have strong evidence and effective partnerships in place. From the moment the waste was spotted to the vehicle being seized and a fine issued, the investigation took less than a week."
He emphasised the harm and risk of illegal waste dumping to communities and the environment, and vows continued enforcement actions.
