Wiltshire communities encouraged to hold VE Day street parties
The Council wants to see events held for the 80th anniversary in May
Communities in Wiltshire are being encouraged to hold events and streets parties later this year, to mark 80 years since VE Day.
The Council wants to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe on 8th May 1945.
Celebrations that'll need permission from the authority, like road closures, have to be applied for eight weeks in advance |newtab) - so the deadline is 13th March.
Events in a number of locations don't need that kind of permission though, except from the OK from the landowner, in places like:
• A local park/field
• A village hall/green
• Your garden
• Local sports field
If residents are hosting an event on Wiltshire Council-owned land, straightforward applications for permissions can be processed within two weeks.
Events involving entertainment, selling alcohol, or other licensed activities, additional permits may be needed. |newtab)
Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We are looking forward to celebrating VE Day and want to ensure our local communities all have the information they need to celebrate this historical occasion.
“We understand that many our residents will be looking forward to hosting their own celebrations, and we’re encouraging them to apply early for the necessary permissions. By planning ahead, we can all help make this special anniversary a memorable occasion for Wiltshire’s communities.”
