Wiltshire Council has acquired the former Trowbridge Hospital site as part of its long-term plan to develop modern, fit-for-purpose care facilities that cater to residents’ needs now and in the future.
Recognizing the growing demand for specialist care, particularly for conditions like dementia, the council aims to ensure accessible, high-quality care environments that adapt to evolving requirements.
This acquisition represents a strategic investment in Wiltshire’s care infrastructure, complementing the council’s £3m expenditure on the nearby Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre.
The focus is on establishing facilities where people can access the right care at the right time, showcasing Wiltshire Council's commitment to meeting local communities' healthcare needs.
Cllr Clare Cape, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, emphasized the acquisition's significance, reiterating the importance of planning for future care demands and engaging with residents and stakeholders throughout the development process.
Nicola Booth, Senior Transaction Manager for NHS Property Services, noted that proceeds from the sale would be reinvested into the NHS estate, contributing to the Government’s ten-year capital health plan.
Wiltshire Council will now explore options for the site and develop proposals, ensuring ongoing communication with the community as plans progress.
