Westbury odour complaints rise, community drop in event to come
People in Westbury will get the chance to raise concerns with officials
People in Westbury are to get the chance to raise their concerns about the impacts of an ongoing odour in the town.
It follows a rise in reports of a smell from the Northacre mechanical biological treatment (MBT) waste facility being made to the Environment Agency (EA), with officials say they recognise the frustration it's causing locals.
The session is to be held on 17th August at The Laverton on Bratton Road from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, with representatives from the Environment Agency, Wiltshire Council and Hills Waste Solutions expected to be available to provide information and answer questions.
The site recently closed for two weeks following an internal crane failure, before reopening on 20th July. Since then, hot weather has caused complaints to rise.
EA officials say they're assessing the impact of the recent shutdown and improvement works and are collecting evidence both on and off site to understand how effective they are and whether further action is required.
The Environment Agency said: "We are considering all available regulatory and enforcement options and will not hesitate to take further action where the evidence supports it. We will share information about any enforcement action as soon as we are able to do so."
