Series of Warminster van thefts being investigated by Police
Van owners are urged to take action to protect their tools and vans
A series of van break in's are being investigated in Warminster, after eight vans were targeted.
Offenders, who are currently unknown, have been drilling holes in the doors of vehicles to steal high value tools from them.
The thefts are thought to have occurred between 28th April and 4th May, between the hours of 1am and 3am on Marsh Street, Upper Marsh Road, Wessex Court, Wylye Road and The Dene.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information and have also urged van owners to take steps to secure their vehicles.
The Force advises van owners to:
- Remove all high value tools overnight and consider using ‘there are no tools left in this vehicle’ signs
- Don’t leave tools on show if you’re leaving your van unattended
- Make sure any alarm system is working and consider using additional security such as steering wheel locks.
- Park your van in a secure location where it can be seen so that anyone approaching it will also be seen.
- Consider marking your tools so if they are stolen, they can be identified. Company-branded tools are also less appealing to thieves.
- Remember to take a note of all the serial numbers on your items and photograph them and use signage to warn that your tools have been marked.
- CCTV, lighting and alarms help to act as a deterrent to those committing the crime. Small CCTV cameras can be purchased and put in the rear of your van.
- If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, inform the Police.
Anyone who witnessed anything or has any information is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting reference 54250051785.
Anyone who has been a victim of a break-in is told to report the theft as soon as possible and preserve as much evidence as you can so that investigators can consider forensic examination.
Anyone who notices someone acting suspiciously or any suspicious vehicles report it immediately by calling 999.
Police are also asking for CCTV or doorbell footage to aid their enquiries. We should contact our Neighbourhood Policing Team.
