Volunteer trio commended for help in recovering body from river
Jo, Scott and Phil aided in the recovery of the body of a man in his 20s in Bradford-on-Avon
Three volunteers who helped locate and secure the body of a missing person in Bradford-on-Avon earlier this year have been recognised for their efforts by the Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police.
Scott Finch, Jo Young and Phil Snow all volunteer with Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and were all involved in the search for a man in his 20s in June this year.
Once it became clear that the rescue effort had become a recovery operation, Jo, Phil and Scott helped locate the body with a pole and an underwater camera.
With a specialist dive team unavailable for several hours to bring the submerged body out of the water, the trio remained at the scene overnight to ensure the body would not be lost to the current, before recovering the body themselves, something outside their normal remit.
It took 20 minutes of careful work but the group managed to successfully raise the body to the surface with dignity.
Chief Constable Catherine Roper said: "Their actions exemplify the highest standards of volunteer service: courage, teamwork, compassion, and quiet professionalism."
The Chief Officer's Commendation's were awarded by Assistant Chief Constable, Ian Saunders.
