Amesbury Police say they 'swiftly' responded to urgent welfare concerns raised for a woman residing at a property in Amesbury earlier this week.

Several reports were made directly to officers and the control room, prompting one neighbourhood officer and two response officers to attend the address.

They found the tenant alone and quickly secured the property.

Two adults who had been residing there uninvited since Tuesday 3rd February had momentarily left.

Police identified these two individuals as being in the early stages of cuckooing, a practice of exploiting a vulnerable person's home for criminal activities.

Both individuals were previously linked to similar exploitation cases in the local area.

With the tenant's permission, all personal items belonging to the two non-residents were removed and returned at a neutral location.

Officers also seized Class A drugs and disposed of related paraphernalia.

The tenant has been safeguarded with the support of her immediate family and her housing association has been informed.

The two individuals have been ordered not to return to the address, respecting the tenant's wishes.
