Two men jailed for having multiple fake driving licences in Corsham
The documents were found during a drugs warrant
Two men have been jailed after being found with multiple fake driving licences in Corsham.
35 year old Irfan Azizi from Pockeridge Road and 22 year old Muhamet Jahollari have been handed six month sentences by Swindon Crown Court.
The pair were at Azizi's home when police carried out a drugs warrant in February.
A fake German driving licence belonging to Jahollari was found, while he tried to hide car keys from officers - that vehicle was insured to Jahollari, using details from the fake licence.
A second fake German document was found inside the car.
Three weeks earlier, in a separate incident, Azizi attended Melksham station to release a seized vehicle, and he also produced a fake German driving licence.
An officer in Northamptonshire had also stopped Azizi four days later, and the fake document was produced again, which he claimed he'd exchanged for an Albanian licence.
The pair were charged with possession of false documents with intent, and pleaded guilty.
The fake licences will be destroyed and they will be both required to pay a victim surcharge.
Detective Constable Kev Golledge of Chippenham Police said: “Creating and using fake driving licences is not a victimless crime and has serious consequences, as seen by this custodial sentence.
“It undermines the system of governance in this country, and for the safety of other road users, it’s vital to have the correct licences to ensure that you are safe to drive on our roads.
“We also know that the use of fake licences can facilitate further criminality.
“I’m pleased that Azizi and Jahollari have been jailed for their actions and I hope it serves as a deterrent to those who take to the roads without the correct documentation.”
