Trowbridge welcomes new mayor as Stewart Palmen takes the helm
Councillor Julie Vine elected as Deputy Mayor
Attention turned to Stewart Palmen during the Annual Meeting of Trowbridge Town Council earlier this week, on 11th May 2026, as he was elected as the new Mayor of Trowbridge and Chair of the Council.
Palmen follows Stephen Cooper, who served as Town Mayor and Chair for three years.
Councillor Julie Vine will take on the role of Deputy Mayor for the upcoming municipal year.
The meeting provided outgoing Mayor Stephen Cooper an opportunity to reflect on his tenure and express gratitude towards councillors, council officers, community groups, volunteers, and the community for their support.
In a significant gesture of the evening, Councillor Cooper presented a cheque for £4,082.04 to the Mill Street Club, part of Beyond Dementia, raised during his term through various community and civic events.
The Annual Meeting also heralded the start of the new municipal year, bringing updates to committees and civic roles.
Members of the Youth Parliament observed the meeting, gaining insight into local governance processes.
Earlier, the young attendees engaged with the outgoing Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Town Clerk, gaining deeper understanding of the Town Council’s role in community support.
They watched the formal election process, offering a firsthand look at how leadership within the council is chosen.
