A man from Trowbridge has been jailed for six years after being found guilty of rape.
Andrew Hews, 38, of Frome Road, Trowbridge, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on May 20.
Hews filmed himself sexually assaulting the woman as she slept and showed her the footage after the incident.
Det Con Danielle Swanborough said: “Hews has shown no remorse for his actions, pleading not guilty and forcing his victim to relive her ordeal in court. He raped the woman and filmed his actions on his phone. I am pleased that he has been given a custodial sentence and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim and her children directly or indirectly for the next decade. I hope this provides them with some form of closure and the opportunity to move on with their lives.
“I’d like to praise the victim for her courage and bravery in reporting Hews’ actions to police and standing up in court to give evidence. I appreciate how difficult this must have been. I hope she has felt supportive through the process and I would urge anyone who has been sexually assaulted to contact police so we can ensure offenders are put before the courts.”
