Inspector Lou Oakley says she has a plan, but it needs public support to be effective

The new police Inspector for Trowbridge is setting her sights firmly on town centre crime and anti-social behaviour.

Lou Oakley has become the new Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector in the town, after her role in Warminster was expanded to include Trowbridge, Melksham and Bradford on Avon.

During that time, she's worked multiple units, including a specialised unit trained to an advanced tactical level in public order and riot control. She is now the Force Tactical Lead for Stop and Search and recently completed her Firearms Tactical Commander's Course.

Inspector Oakley, who's been with Wiltshire Police for 20 years, and says frontline policing is her passion.

"I firmly believe that tackling the root causes of crime can make a real difference in our communities while helping to build trust and confidence in policing. I also recognise that policing cannot solve crime alone, which is why I value working closely with partner agencies to develop long-term problem-solving approaches."

Inspector Oakley has curated a plan of action for Trowbridge, having met with key local figures earlier this month. Based on their feedback she's targeting four key areas:

-Anti-social behaviour in the town centre

-Crime linked to the town centre

-Shoplifting

  • Road Safety

But she says a plan alone isn't enough.

She said: "We need your support. We are asking residents, businesses and visitors to report all incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour. Wiltshire Council, supported by Wiltshire Police, is looking to begin the process of introducing a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), and evidence from reported incidents will play a vital role in supporting this.

"We are your police service, and we need your help. If you see something suspicious, please tell us."
