A drink driver from Westbury has avoided jail after injuring a member of public who tried to stop his vehicle last year.

Adam Rogers, 35, of Queens Road, has been given a 12 month prison term, suspended for 15 months, after he admitted to drink driving and dangerous driving.

He's also been banned from getting behind the wheel for 18 months.

The incident happened in the early hours of 16th November 2024, when Rogers was approached by a man in Trowbridge who had concerns about him being fit to drive.

But Rogers drove off with the mans arm still in his car, dragging him alongside his BMW 3 series and causing cuts to the mans hands and knees.

He eventually stopped the vehicle in Woodmarsh, where police arrived to carry out a roadside breath test, which Rogers failed, leading to his arrest. Officers noted that the 35-year-old smelt strongly of alcohol and was slurring his words.

Sergeant James Barrett, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Rogers’ mindless actions caused injury to a member of the public who was trying to prevent him from driving and putting himself and other road users at serious risk of injury, or worse, death.

"He was in no fit state to be behind the wheel of a car and I am pleased that a lengthy disqualification has been given.”
