Trowbridge Carnival cancelled due to funding shortfall
Organisers of Trowbridge Carnival say this year's event can't go ahead
Organisers of Trowbridge Carnival say the event won't go ahead this year due to funding struggles.
In a video on social media the Chair of the carnival announced this year's event would be cancelled due to the funding not being available to put on a safe event.
Chair of the committee, Jo Gray, said: "It is really sad and I have been very upset by it," she said.
"We're only a team of volunteers and this year we just can't do it. We lost our main sponsor last year and managed to keep going by using our reserves, but we simply haven't had the financial backing this time.
"We've had to make the really hard decision to cancel this year's carnival. Now we've got to put our heads down and focus on finding sponsorship for the future."
The committee needs around £12,500 each year to stage the October procession.
They say despite this bump in the road they plan to be back again next year and encouraged people to get involved in any event they see come up in the community.
