Authorities are urging aircraft enthusiasts to reconsider visiting the Fairford and Marston Meysey areas due to traffic disruptions caused by an increase in visitors.

The Ministry of Defence, Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Council, and Gloucestershire Constabulary are collaborating to address the issue of local traffic disruptions following the surge in plane spotters and visitors.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We have listened to views from the parish council and local residents regarding the possibility of implementing road closures and no parking restrictions. However, we do not feel that this would be an appropriate step to take at this stage as it could result in further disruption to local residents and create dangerous conditions in surrounding roads should vehicles be left unattended.

"Work remains ongoing to ensure access roads and pavements remain clear and we will continue to review all tactical options and carry out regular patrols to support the local community."

Screening has now been installed around the perimeter of the airfield, limiting views and prompting requests from authorities for enthusiasts to rethink their attendance.

Underlining legal concerns, the statement reminded attendees that the UK's National Security Act 2023 makes it an offence to photograph or record "prohibited places" if it prejudices national security.

While photographing in public is generally legal, taking images that could assist terrorists or endanger safety is prohibited, and police have the authority to stop, inspect, and delete such imagery under the National Security Act and the Terrorism Act.
