Wiltshire firm plans huge extension to warehouse
Tinplate wants to double its warehouse space
A Wiltshire firm is planning a huge extension to a warehouse where it produces tin packaging for household names.
Tinplate Ltd has asked Wiltshire Council for planning permission to more than double the size of its warehouse at Dunkirk Business Park in Southwick, near Trowbridge.
The family-run business makes bespoke tin packaging – everything from candle tins and biscuit tins to gift, media and promotional tins – for clients ranging from Ovaltine and car manufacturers Porsche and Jaguar to award-winning CD packaging for heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
It also works for tea brands including Fortnum & Mason, Whittard of Chelsea, Harrods, and Pukka.
Tinplate has operated from Dunkirk Business Park for 20 years and moved into a new building on the park in 2019.
The company says that “while the new storage facility will not increase the company’s permanent workforce, it will create additional seasonal employment opportunities and allow the company to grow its turnover, productivity, and profitability at a time of considerable global challenges.”
Its proposed extension will more than double its floorspace – from 825 sq m to 1,968 sq m.
The new extension would be connected to the existing building by a short corridor and the extension would be of a modern design with roof and cladding that match the existing building.
A decision from Wiltshire Council is expected by the end of June.
