Tidworth Town Council say engineers are working as quickly and safely as possible to contain a gas leak following a crash.
Emergency services were first called to the incident on Station Road last night, which has resulted in a number of nearby homes being evacuated.
Police say a 21 year old from Aldershot has been charged with careless driving and driving without insurance in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for the Wiltshire force said: "The driver - Albert Kweku-Duah, 21, of Aldershot - has since been charged with careless driving and driving without insurance in connection with the incident and is due in court in October."
Tidworth Town Council said: "We are aware of the ongoing gas leak incident on Station Road.
"SGN engineers are currently on site working to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible.
"SGN are in the process of establishing a local information hub where staff will be available to provide updates and assistance to affected residents. We will share the location as soon as it has been confirmed.

"SGN have advised that they may introduce a dedicated telephone line for this incident. If this happens, we will share the details as soon as they become available.
"Once the information hub is operational, SGN have also indicated that emergency equipment may be made available for affected residents, including Hot plates & Fan heaters
