Three arrested after car abandoned on railway track near Holt

Police say suspected stolen property was found in the vehicle

Three people have been arrested after a car was abandoned on a railway track near Holt with suspected stolen goods inside.

Officers on patrol in Bradford-on-Avon were alerted to the suspicious vehicle through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at around 1.30am this morning (March 17).

When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it broke through multiple railway gates and drove onto the train line.

The occupants fled the scene, and officers, including dog handlers, attempted to track them.

Police say suspected stolen property, believed to be linked to a recent burglary, was found in the vehicle.

Shortly after 3am, a Mazda, was stopped in the area, leading to the three occupants arrested.

Train services between Chippenham and Trowbridge, via Melksham were affected due to the car obstructing the line.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for an officer, going equipped for theft, and the theft of a pedal cycle.

A 17-year-old boy faces charges of failing to stop, dangerous driving, drug driving, going equipped for theft, and the theft of a pedal cycle.

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and obstructing a police officer.

All three remain in custody for questioning.
