A man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two women who were at a nightclub in Chippenham.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court on Wednesday (June 4th), 30-year-old Alexandru Popescu was convicted of two counts of sexual assault after a five-day trial, which had been delayed by three years.
During the evening of April 2nd 2022, Popescu - from Bradford Leigh, near Holt - targeted a woman while they were at E11ens nightclub in Chippenham.
In the incident, he was seen following her around the nightclub, dancing behind her and touching her without her consent.
Later on in the evening, Popescu went on to grab a second woman's breast - also without her consent - and held it before she moved away and her boyfriend stepped in.
Security was later alerted to Popescu's behaviour and he was soon ejected from the club a short time later.
Speaking on the decision, Detective Constable Niall Maidment from Wiltshire Police thanked the two victims for coming forward, commending their bravery and seeing the justice process through.
"I’m pleased that the jury found Popescu guilty and will now rightly hold him to account for his predatory behaviour," he said.
“I’d also like to reassure victims of sexual assault that they will always be listened to – no one has the right to violate another person, and we are committed to ensuring survivors are supported and heard.”
Popescu was released on bail and will be sentenced at a later court date set for July 15th at Swindon Crown Court.
