Wiltshire Police sees 999 calls hit record levels
The Force is asking for us to help ease demand on it's resources over summer

Wiltshire Police is asking us to help ease demand on its resources amid record 999 call-outs during the heat waves and World Cup.
The Force recorded over 12,000 incident logs in June - that's both 999 and 101 calls - which reflects a 7.4% rise compared to June 2025.
999 calls in a 24-hour period peaked on Saturday 27th June, the same day as England's final group stage match in the World Cup, a 2-0 win over Panama, with 578 emergency calls. It's a record for the Force, which says the heat, World Cup matches and large community gatherings are the key factors behind this spike.
Chief Superintendent Guy Elkins said: “We have seen an unprecedented number of calls recently, and we want to ensure that those in need can get hold of us.
"By reporting non-emergencies online, this can help to free up 101 lines for those who are not able to use the online reporting service. Our online reports are handled by the same operators as our calls, so will still be reviewed promptly and with the same care and attention.”
Officers are asking us to be responsible as the summer continues, in a week where temperatures remain high and the Three Lions prepare for a crunch semi-final with Argentina on Wednesday, and possibly a World Cup Final, to ensure that they can reach those in most need as quickly as possible.
We're asked to only call 999 in the following situations:
- If we're in imminent danger or there is an immediate threat
- We see something that needs immediate action
- A crime is happening
