A South Wiltshire woman who has twice beaten cancer is preparing to run the London Marathon to help support others with the disease.

Salisbury nurse Sue Shaw is taking on the 26.2 mile challenge in the Capital on behalf of Cancer Research UK.

Sue, who turned 60 last year, told us she was inspired to apply for the marathon during her recovery from ovarian cancer, having beaten stage 3 breast and axillary node cancer in 2015.

"I thought that's such an iconic marathon, wouldn't it be fantastic to do that?" she said.

But Sue has been given just three months to prepare, having only been told she had a place on 31st January.

"I thought it was a joke, or spam, as you only have a 2% chance of getting in I believe, but it's true!" she told us.

Sue has been training as much as she can, having spent much of the last year recovering and not exercising a huge amount.

She said: "When I was going through treatments, I was very much of the frame of mind that I did whatever I felt was the right thing to do.

"So it's gone from that to a few half hours trying to get myself fit."

Having beaten two bouts of cancer, Sue is aiming to inspire others with the illness that they too can regain their health.

Sue tells us that she's excited to see the famous landmarks along the route, with Buckingham Palace top of the list.

"I'm hoping that there might be some Royals in the box going, 'come on, sue!'" she said.

Sue added that she's looking forward camaraderie and atmosphere of the marathon, with people lining the streets of the capital to cheer people on.

Sue is aiming to raise £2,500 and we can support her here.
