Next Stars Appeal trek location revealed
Supporters will be heading to the Sahara Desert to raise money for Salisbury District Hospital
The Stars Appeal has revealed it's next Trek adventure location in support of Salisbury District Hospital.
Supporters of the charity will be heading to the Sahara Desert for a 100km trek challenge in February 2028, in the charity's seventh fundraising adventure.
Previous locations include the Great Wall of China, the Indian Himalayas and Machu Picchu, and have helped raise over half a million pounds for the hospital.
This year, a group of 29 local people completed a trek in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas and raised £91,973.
Participants in the next adventure will spend six days in the heat, walking more than 60 miles across the desert landscapes, overcoming rocky terrain, towering dunes and remote salt plains, before camping beneath the stars.
The Stars Appeal’s Volunteer Challenge Manager, Jo Maslen, who has trekked five of the previous six treks, said: “This is your chance to change your own life, and the lives of patients and the staff who care for them in our hospital. Our treks challenge you from sign-up to finish line - from getting fit and hitting your fundraising target, to trekking tough but unforgettable landscapes, travelling with a big group and being far from home.
“It will be an adventure filled with breathtaking views, golden sunrises and sunsets, treks alongside Berber guides and their camels, evenings around the campfire, and sleeping under the stars. Along the way, you’ll form new friendships, discover inner strengths you never knew you had, and create memories that will stay with you forever. Every step you take will help support Salisbury Hospital. If you have a positive mindset, a can-do attitude, and are ready to challenge yourself, come along to our information evening to find out more.”
Each participant will need to raise at least £2,000 as well as paying their own costs to take part, which is being organised by Discover Adventure.
A further information evening is being held on 20th October in Salisbury. People can sign up via the Stars Appeal website here.
The money raised will help the Stars Appeal towards its annual £2 million target, which funds new and ongoing projects across the hospital, such as new equipment and support for cancer patients.
