A Wiltshire MP says the Government isn't doing enough to support rural NHS services.

It comes as Roz Savage has demanded a meeting with local health bosses to get an update on the future of GP provision in Sherston.

The South Cotswolds MP says the Government has failed to address the issue itself, instead handing over responsibility for the decision on a new building for a practice to the Integrated Care Board (ICB).

In a post on Facebook, Ms Savage said: "This matters enormously to Sherston and North Wiltshire. Malmesbury Primary Care Centre has already said it cannot absorb an extra 3,500 patients.

"Public transport is not sufficient for people to travel easily to Malmesbury, Tetbury or Chippenham. The community has spoken with absolute clarity: they want a GP surgery in Sherston."

In a letter to the ICB, the Liberal Democrat says the Government's response has "done little to reassure residents" and she finds it "deeply concerning".

She's called for a meeting to discuss the barriers to GP provision in the village and how collaborative working could address them and a timeline on a clear decision for the future of Tolsey Surgery's premises.

The current lease for the site has two years remaining.

A petition led by Ms Savage was signed by almost 1,700 people.
