A rare, medieval bible is to go on public display for the first time at Salisbury Cathedral.

Created by the Sarum Master, one of the great artists of his time, it depicts many scenes and characters from the Bible and other subjects.

It's thought he lived in Salisbury in 1240's and 50's and appeared to have led a large workshop.

The time is noted for much artistic activity, during which time the Cathedral was being built and decorated with wall-painting, ceiling-painting, sculpture and stained glass. Experts believe it's likely that the different artists working in the city drew inspiration from and influenced each other.

It goes on display at the end of February for three weeks.

It's display has been made possible campaign by Friends of the Nations’ Libraries, which allowed funds to be raised for it to be purchased from a private owner.
