Salisbury set to mark Armistice Day
A two minute silence will be held across the country at 11am
The Salisbury branch of the Royal British Legion has told us why it's so important for us to remember those who have sacrificed during conflict.
The veteran's charity will marking Armistice Day in the Guildhall Square with a small service at the War Memorial.
A two minutes silence will be held across the country at 11am - with Salisbury Reds bus drivers pulling over if safe to do so, in order to observe the silence.
President of the Salisbury Royal British Legion, Chris Child, said: "I think it's really important that we remember that sacrifice, because at the end of the day the lives we lead now, all the benefits we have, the democracy, the freedom of speech and so on and so forth, is preserved as a direct result of their sacrifice.
"I think it's really important we remember that moving forward."
He added that the remembrance period can be painful for the families of those who sacrificed themselves during conflict - or are away on active duty at the moment.
Chris said: "Whether the numbers are in the millions or whether they're in the few, the small handfuls, the sacrifice is still considerable and we really ought to think in terms of the individual sacrifice, not the numbers or the scale."
The charity has spent the last two weeks raising funds with its Poppy Appeal, which has been running over a century, raising more than £3 billion.
It's the Royal British Legion's biggest fundraising event of the year.
"Our team of volunteers has been out and about in the city, collecting money for the Poppy Appeal. There are something like there are well over 200 different locations around the city where we've got collecting tins and we've got the Poppy Appeal boxes," Chris said.
He told us the money we donate helps support a number of vital support services for Veterans.
Chris said: "The funding raised through the Poppy Appeal goes on the Royal British Legion, spends it on everything from care homes to advice services, providing veterans with financial support, providing veterans with housing support, providing rehabilitation services and so on and so forth.
"That money raised through the Poppy Appeal goes to an extremely good cause."
