Two Liberal Democrats elected in Salisbury Milford by-elections
Both Milford seats stay Liberal Democrat after Thursday's votes
Two Liberal Democrats have been elected in the Milford by-elections in Salisbury.
Mac Brown won the Wiltshire Council seat with 759 votes.
Lawrence Gillies was elected to Salisbury City Council with 751 votes.
The by-elections were held on Thursday, and the result means the Liberal Democrats keep both seats in Milford.
The results
The contests followed the resignation of former Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Bayliss, who stepped down from both councils for personal reasons in September.
People in the Salisbury Milford electoral area voted for new representatives at the two authorities.
Polling stations opened throughout Thursday, with ballot boxes taken for counting later that evening.
For the Wiltshire Council seat, turnout was 41.19 per cent.
The Liberal Democrats received 154 more votes than Conservative candidate Laura Jones, who came second with 605 votes.
Reform UK's Simon Lever received 189 votes and Labour's Sony Assuon received 110 votes.
For the Salisbury City Council seat, turnout was also 41.19 per cent.
The Liberal Democrats received 138 more votes than the Conservatives.
What the winners said
Following the declaration, Lawrence Gillies said: "I feel relieved, excited, happy, and proud because this is my first time standing, never mind being elected to anything, so I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it."
Mac Brown said: "I feel absolutely delighted to have been elected for the Wiltshire Council seat."
Background to the by-elections
The Wiltshire Council result could have affected the balance of power on the authority.
Before polling day, the Liberal Democrats held 42 seats on the council, compared with 38 held by the Conservatives.
Milford was the authority's only vacancy.
The Liberal Democrats had been defending territory won at the 2025 council elections.
