Salisbury charity aiming to boost men's wellbeing with City Hall event
Clubs and activity groups are being brought together under one roof
A Salisbury organisation is bringing clubs and activity providers together to boost men's wellbeing in the city.
Safer and Supportive Salisbury (SaSS) is bringing clubs and activity groups under one roof at the newly reopened City Hall in September to support positive mental health for men.
SaSS Project Manager Belinda Chandler told Greatest Hits Radio that they found men's mental health is an under represented area after a network group for mental health was set up last year.
"We've been speaking with groups and organisations to really see how this event should be represented to work with existing groups to support the men in Salisbury and to provide something that that really makes a difference and is there for people," she said.
The event, which is on Tuesday 16th September from 3pm to 7pm, will showcase a range of clubs, including motorbikes, chess and walking football.
There will also be free workshops on creative writing, dance, wellbeing and DJing, which are bookable on the SaSS website, as well as advice and information on all aspects of health and wellbeing.
Belinda told us variety is key: "There is no one route to positive mental health and well-being, you know, everybody's got a different approach to this and you need to be able to have a space where lots of different activities and support and pastimes can coexist under one roof," she said.
Belinda added that it was important to ensure the event is "relaxed" with no pressure for people to do anything straight away.
"This isn't an event just for people that are necessarily struggling. This is an event for people that want to live their healthiest, happiest and positive life and it's about just showing what is out there and the groups that really benefit men," she said.
