Salisbury Market Place public toilets CLOSED

The City Council say it's due to a pump failure

The public toilets on Salisbury Market Place have been shut to the public for the second time this year.

The City Council say they're 'out of service' due to an issue with the pump in the underground facilities, but it's also affecting the above ground accessible toilet too.

A 'non-flushable item' had been placed down a toilet back in January, causing the pump to fail.

But a new inspection yesterday (Monday 31st March) has found it's failed again.

Engineers are working to find out if it's a recurring issue or a new problem.

The closure's set to be in place 'until further notice' but the facilities are already due to be closing later this year after the City Council decided to shut them due to the expense of upkeep.

In a statement, Salisbury City Council said:

"We regret to inform you that the Market Place toilets are currently out of service.

"There was a previous issue with the pump in January, due to a non-flushable item being placed down the toilet causing it to fail, which was fixed. However, upon inspection today, the pump has failed again.

"At present, we do not know if this current problem is a failure with the repair, or if it is a new issue. An investigation will be carried out as soon as possible to find the cause.

"Unfortunately, as this pump serves both the underground toilets and the above ground accessible toilet, all toilets are closed until further notice.

"The nearest alternative public toilets can be found in the Old George Mall, Lush House Car Park and Millstream Coach Park.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience while we work to resolve the issue."
