Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Salisbury
Police apprehended a man after a woman was seriously assaulted
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Salisbury where a woman was seriously assaulted.
The incident took place at an address in Firsdown at approximately 4.45pm on 5th May.
The woman, who is in her 50s, was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious but not life threatening.
According to the force, the man was known to the victim and had left the scene, prompting extensive searches by police throughout the evening.
A police helicopter also assisted in the search efforts.
Officers apprehended the suspect at approximately 10.40pm on the same day.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon and has been taken to Melksham custody for further questioning.
Detective Inspector Eirin Martin addressed the community’s concerns regarding the incident.
"We appreciate the significant concern this incident caused, with a heightened police presence across the city whilst searches of an address were carried out, as well as searches to locate the man. Please be reassured that this was an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public and we have arrested a man in connection with it."
Martin also thanked the community for their patience and reassured that there will be a continued police presence in the areas of Spire View and Bishopdown while enquiries are ongoing.
