Salisbury City Council has approved the allocation of funding for replacing a footbridge in Queen Elizabeth Gardens, ensuring continued public access and maintenance of the popular recreational space.

During the Full Council meeting on 26th May, the Council agreed to transfer the remaining £39,830 from Queen Elizabeth Gardens S106 funding into general reserves to support the project in the 2026/27 financial year.

Of the original £45,550 S106 funding intended for footbridge maintenance, £5,720 has already been spent on structural surveys, drawings, and plans for the bridges.

The origins of the existing bridges date back prior to the 2010 park refurbishment.

The fund transfer creates a revenue budget for replacing at least one footbridge, fulfilling the Council's legal planning obligations.

Cllr Sam Charleston, Leader of Salisbury City Council, emphasised the importance of the project, stating, "Starting this work now will help to ensure the future of Queen Elizabeth Gardens as a community hub for residents to enjoy."

The replacement of the footbridge not only maintains public access but also contributes to the park's longevity as a cherished community space.
