Steps are being taken to boost water quality in a protected South Wiltshire chalk stream.

A former dairy site at Roundbarrow Farm in Pitton is being restored into chalk grassland by the RSPB and Wiltshire Council.

It's aim is to prevent excess pollutant nutrients entering the water, allowing wildlife to thrive.

The RSPB say they hope the area will become a haven for rare plants like Bird’s-Foot-Trefoil, Scabiouses and Vetches, support butterflies like the Chalkhill Blue and Adonis Blue, and boost bird species such as Stone-curlew, Grey Partridge, Yellowhammer, Corn Bunting and Lapwing.

Wiltshire Council will also be installing a bridleway through the reserve to create new walking route and plant a community orchard.
