Protected pub up for sale to Community Interest Groups
The Rose & Crown in Chippenham was given Asset of Community Value status last month
A pub that was recently given protected status in Chippenham is being made available to Community Interest Groups.
Wiltshire Council added the Rose & Crown to its Asset of Community Value (ACV) list in April this year, but now the owner wants to sell up.
The venue has been closed since November 2025.
An interim moratorium on its sale is now in place until 5th June, allowing interested parties to register their interest in taking over the site.
Requests to be treated as a potential bidder should be sent to [email protected]
Should requests be made to Wiltshire Council, a six-month period of "full moratorium" will be engaged. This is to allow consortiums to gather the required funding to put a full bid together. The owner is under no obligation to accept an offer.
Government regulations outline the definition of eligible Community Interest Groups here.
However, should no bids be received, the current owner will be free to dispose of the venue as they see fit.
The pub became an ACV following a request from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to retain the building for community use.
