Prospect Hospice announces new inpatient beds by January 2027
Community support helps hospice expand end-of-life care
Prospect Hospice has announced plans to increase the number of operational inpatient beds from six to nine by January 2027, thanks to overwhelming community support.
The expansion will enable Prospect Hospice to offer its specialist end-of-life care to around 90 additional patients and their families each year, providing greater choice and access to compassionate care.
Currently, the hospice provides care for 180 patients annually in its inpatient unit.
The additional beds are expected to create more opportunities for individuals to receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
James Wallace, who witnessed the impact of hospice care when his wife Becca received support from Prospect Hospice, said: "Together with our two teenage daughters, we were all supported through the difficult time, and it’s incredible to know that so many more families will benefit from the care and love that we experienced."
Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive of Prospect Hospice, expressed gratitude for the community's support, saying: "It’s just brilliant that we are in the position to increase the number of beds on our inpatient unit. We’ve been fortunate to have had an unprecedented level of community support in our 46-year history, and this is a huge step forward in providing choice and consistency in end-of-life care."
Prospect Hospice, serving Swindon, Marlborough, and north east Wiltshire, offers end-of-life care to a community of over 330,000 people.
The hospice's commitment to high standards in care has been recognized by the Care Quality Commission.
