Pregnant sheep killed in suspected dog attack in Upper Chute

Police are appealing for witnesses after three pregnant sheep were killed in Upper Chute in an attack believed to be by a "loose" dog.

The incident occurred around 7.30am thus morning (April 1) in a field off Malthouse Lane where a flock of ewes were attacked.

Wiltshire Police say several other sheep were injured.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "The incident is likely to have occurred by someone walking their dog off lead in the area, or a dog which has escaped from a local house.

"Due to the injuries caused to the ewes, it’s likely the dog would have returned covered in blood."

Officers would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident.

The force are also reminding dog owners to keep animals on leads near livestock or the could face an unlimited fine or have their dog seized under new livestock worrying laws.
