Police are urging people in south Wiltshire to take extra steps to protect their homes after a number of burglaries.

Wiltshire Police said the break-ins happened between 8th and 11th October in the Amesbury, Tidworth and Salisbury areas.

Officers are carrying out additional patrols in the affected areas.

The force said the patrols are to provide reassurance, speak to people and gather information as part of its ongoing investigations.

Inspector Gavin Brewster said: "Burglary is a horrendous crime. Not only do offenders steal people's belongings, but they can leave a lasting emotional impact on victims, who are left knowing someone has entered their home and invaded what should be their safe space.

"Prior to these incidents in south Wiltshire, there were a number of similar offences reported over the border in Hampshire. While we cannot say at this stage whether the incidents are linked, we are keeping an open mind and exploring all lines of enquiry.

"We are urging residents to consider what additional measures they can take to protect their homes and to report any suspicious activity to us through our website, or by calling 999 in an emergency."
