Wiltshire's Family and Community Learning service has received a positive review in its latest Ofsted inspection, highlighting the programme's success in empowering learners with personalised support and confidence-building.
The inspection found the service complies with expected standards across all areas, including safeguarding, reflecting its comprehensive approach to education.
The review highlighted several strengths, such as the strong support provided to disadvantaged learners and those facing barriers to traditional education.
Flexible learning options are available, catering to learners with special educational needs, care-experienced individuals, and those learning English as a second language.
Significant positive partnerships enable the programme to stay responsive to local community needs, benefiting learners who are developing essential skills and independence.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills, praised the achievements, noting the transformative effect adult learning has on individuals in Wiltshire.
He said, "We're delighted that Ofsted has recognised the positive impact of our Family and Community Learning service and the dedication of our staff, tutors and partners. Adult learning can transform lives, helping people gain new skills, improve their confidence and wellbeing, and access new opportunities."
The report noted that learners develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to engage fully in their communities and work with professionals confidently.
Inspectors also observed that learners feel welcome, valued, and safe, with personalised support helping them overcome common challenges like low confidence, anxiety, and social isolation.
The Family and Community Learning programme offers various courses for Wiltshire residents, including essential skills training, family learning, health and wellbeing classes, employability training, and English language instruction both locally and online.
