Newley born European Wolf pups have been captured on camera at Longleat Safari Park, as they begin to explore their surroundings.

The wolf pups, captured by keepers using camera traps, are the offspring of wolves Meg and Terry.

Mum Meg delivered the pups in a den she created at the Safari Park but sadly Terry passed away from natural causes before their birth.

Longleat say the pups are now starting to explore their habitat in daylight and Meg has settled into her role as a solo parent beautifully,

Darren Beasley, head of animal operations, said: “This is a new pack of wolves for Longleat and for Meg to be raising them alone is a brilliant achievement. Meg and Terry had been together three years and we always hoped each breeding season for success, so it is poignant that they have arrived after his passing.

“We believe there are around half a dozen pups, but we are not entering the paddock, other than to deliver food, to give Meg time to settle them but we can see her feeding them and they seem to be thriving.

“It’s fantastic to have this new family arrive during our 60th anniversary year and for guests to be able to see them grow up. The wolves are a protected species and it is another achievement for our focus on conservation of endangered and vulnerable animals.”

The pups who are now three weeks old live with Meg in a paddock and can be seen by visitors on the Drive Through Safari.
